Midland still has a lot of open ground. Fields that were planted for generations, pasture, gravel drives, and houses sitting back from the road with nothing between them and the weather. New builds on old Midland farmland

A good part of Midland's newer housing went up on ground that used to be planted, and those builder packages tend to arrive with the cheapest door and opener that will pass inspection. The cold snap that breaks springs

Springs do not care much about age, they care about cycles, and the cold is what usually picks the morning. Steel contracts when the temperature drops overnight, the metal is already at the end of its working life, and the first lift of the day is the one that finds it. You hear a bang like something fell over in the garage, and then the door will not budge, or it comes up a hand's width and stops. That is a broken torsion spring, and the door is now dead weight.

Do not keep pressing the button when that happens.
